Keiko tells me this is what happened in Japanese class this week at the Modern Language School:
This week we have learned additional grammar constructs.Hon WA tsukue no ue NI arimasu. The book is on the table. This structure is used to convey a different implication than the one we learnt last week that is:Tsukue no ue NI hon GA arimasu. : There is a book on the table.(Noun) WA (Place) NI arimasu/imasu emphasises the Place, and (Place) NI(Noun)GA arimasu/imasu emphasises the Noun (things or person). Now we can also indicate positions (tsukue no ue: on the table) by using the useful particle のNO.
