German Classes in Huddersfield
Based in Honley, the Modern Language School provides German Classes to adults in a relaxed and stress-free environment.
Uses modern technology but also good old fashioned text books. We are already reading books written in Italian.
Thoroughly recommend the school and the experience 👌
Most importantly, Melodie our teacher makes the lesson so enjoyable. She is knowledgeable, organised and friendly, she is able to keep us comfortable speaking whilst challenging us. So looking forward to the next session. Duolingo has been relegated!
I recommend.
SPANISH
GERMAN
FRENCH
ITALIAN
(And if, for any reason, you can’t get to the class, you can join it on Zoom and participate fully.)
I highly recommend this School.
All the teachers are highly qualified, friendly and professional, using a range of successful teaching techniques which can be accessed in the school or via Zoom.
Groups are small, friendly and fun. The school itself boasts comfortable classrooms and facilities.
The course fees are excellent value.
My experience learning Spanish has always been very positive. Many different resources are used and there are always plenty of opportunities to engage in spanish conversation. The classes are offered simultaneously in a classroom setting and via zoom, so this make it possible to engage in lessons where ever you are.
Lynne ,my Spanish teacher is calm patient organised and extremely competent, making the whole adult learning experience a pleasure.
The school runs foreign cinema sessions, additional study sessions during holidays and great social events giving the opportunity to also meet students from other classes.
In summary, a great place to learn a new language at a pace to suit you.
During lessons, we’re made to feel completely at ease, even when being gently corrected (again) for our mistakes. In response to Covid, the classrooms have been upgraded considerably to keep us safe, and when on-site lessons were forbidden, we still had fun keeping going on Zoom.
For anyone considering starting or continuing to learn one of the languages on offer, here is a brilliant choice.

Why Learn German?
You might already have one or several reasons to learn German. Maybe you would like to communicate with friends and relatives or for work purposes. Maybe you like travelling to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, or Liechtenstein. Maybe you even want to move to a German speaking country. Even if none of these reasons apply to you there are still many other reasons to learn German.
Germany attracts millions of tourists each year with its diverse landscapes, historic sites, and vibrant cities. Learning German can greatly enhance your travel experiences by enabling you to interact with locals, understand signage and directions, and immerse yourself in the local culture. It opens doors to exploring picturesque towns, visiting castles, attending festivals, and indulging in authentic German cuisine.
German speaking countries have a rich cultural heritage. Germany itself is often referred to as “Das Land der Dichter und Denker” – “The land of poets and thinkers” such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Franz Kafka, and Thomas Mann. German speakers have also had considerable influence in the world of classical music (think of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, and others.)
Whether you’re pursuing career opportunities, personal growth, or a deeper appreciation of German culture, acquiring German language skills can be a valuable and rewarding endeavour.

Meet The Teacher

Nina Roberts
Guten Tag! Ich heiße Nina Roberts und komme aus Deutschland. Hello! My name is Nina Roberts and I come from Germany.
I love teaching German here at the Modern Language School. Since coming to the UK in 2006 as a Foreign Language Assistant I have gained a Qualified Teacher Status and a wealth of teaching experience. I can cater for all age groups and levels, including exam preparation, and have had experience teaching children as young as four as well as adults. I joined the Modern Language School in autumn 2013 and really enjoy teaching and learning here. I am enthusiastic about languages in general and will help you build your German language skills by drawing on your previous knowledge or by introducing the language from scratch in an engaging and fun way.
As well as spending time with my family, I enjoy reading, music and hiking. I am also learning Italian with Vicky. This is great fun and a useful reminder of what it is like to sit on the other side of the classroom in the student’s role.

Tina Roussou
My name is Tina Roussou. I am originally from Greece and have been living in England for the last 12 years.
I hold a degree in ‘English Language with German’ (BA hons 2:1) and an academic qualification (PGCE) in teaching modern foreign languages from the University of Huddersfield.
I have several years teaching experience working as a secondary school language teacher, teaching German, Spanish, Italian and Greek. For the last 2 years I have been a private tutor in Philosophy, Greek and Spanish.
I love my work because teaching has the power to enrich people’s lives. Teaching foreign languages provides me with an opportunity to introduce people to the cultural aspects behind the language and share the knowledge base about other cultures. It also gives me a chance to meet great students who share my passion for people, culture, and communication.
My German classes are fun and interactive as well as being of the highest standard focusing on the individual learning needs of my students. Why not come and find out for yourself.
