Advanced Language Classes in Huddersfield
Already confident with the basics? Keep learning with higher-level Spanish, Italian, French and German classes at our adult language school in Honley.
Keep learning the language you love
Getting past the beginner stage is a real achievement, but language learning rarely has a neat finishing line. Even when you can hold a conversation, there is still more to understand, notice and express.
The Modern Language School in Honley, near Huddersfield, runs advanced classes for adults who already have experience with Spanish, Italian, French or German. These are for people who want to keep using what they know, explore a wider range of language and meet others who enjoy learning.
The school has been teaching languages since 2011 and offers a relaxed setting with qualified, experienced tutors. You don’t need to have studied at MLS previously to enquire about the right level for you.

What does advanced language learning involve?
An advanced class should give you somewhere to practise more than the phrases you already know by heart.
Longer conversations
Try developing an opinion, explaining a story and responding more spontaneously to other learners.
More precise expression
Discover how word choice, grammar and tone can change what you communicate.
Keeping your skills active
Make regular speaking and listening a part of your week instead of something saved only for holidays.
Is an advanced class the right level?
Labels such as “advanced” are useful, but they don’t tell the whole story. You might read comfortably yet hesitate in conversation, or speak with confidence while wanting to improve accuracy. That is why the school offers a self-assessment questionnaire to help you judge which class could suit you.
The published timetables confirm Advanced Spanish, Advanced Italian, Advanced German, French Inter Plus / Advanced and French Advanced Plus. Not every language currently has a separately listed Advanced group.
Use the questionnaire as a guide, then contact the school if you would like help choosing. The individual course pages have the latest practical information.
Why come back to class when you already know the language?
A regular class can bring structure back to a language you have learnt over years. It gives you people to speak with, questions to ask and a reason to continue finding new expressions rather than using the same familiar ones.
Perhaps you want more involved conversations on your travels, perhaps you have family or friends abroad, or perhaps you simply enjoy learning. At MLS the atmosphere is designed for adults who want to keep learning without turning their spare time into a formal examination.
Every language has its own teaching team. Visit the relevant advanced page to see who teaches those classes, then follow through to the main course page for availability, fees and the full timetable.
