Italian is even richer once you can join the conversation

There’s a real difference between managing a few sentences in Italian and being able to linger in a conversation without rushing back to English. If you’ve studied the language for some time, an advanced class offers the chance to build on everything you already recognise.

Our Advanced Italian groups are taught by Vicky Addy at the Modern Language School in Honley. Her teaching reflects the school’s relaxed, interactive approach, with plenty of attention to speaking and listening. You’re not starting again. You’re making better use of the language you’ve spent time learning.

From discussing a visit to Italy to following the twists of a longer conversation, continuing to learn can be as enjoyable as those first discoveries.

What can advanced Italian add?

Knowing more words helps, but there is also an art to choosing them and keeping a conversation moving.

Develop an opinion

Go further than simple descriptions: give reasons, respond to somebody else and explain what you really think.

Hear the detail

Become more confident picking up meaning when conversations are longer, quicker or less predictable.

Use more of your Italian

Revisit familiar grammar in new situations and find a wider range of ways to express ideas naturally.

More than ordering a coffee in Italian

Anyone who loves Italy knows that the best conversations don’t always happen in tidy textbook sentences. They might start at a restaurant, on a train, with an old friend or while discussing something you’ve read. Advanced learning is about having more to say when those opportunities come along.

At MLS, classes are designed to remain enjoyable as students progress. Culture is part of the attraction too. Italy’s places, traditions and everyday life give you plenty of reasons to keep asking questions and learning new expressions.

Questions about advanced Italian classes

A few things worth knowing before choosing your next group.

How much Italian should I already know?

These classes are designed for people who have studied Italian beyond the early stages. The self-assessment form gives you a starting point, but the school can help confirm the most suitable group.

Are advanced lessons just grammar exercises?

Speaking and listening are central to Vicky’s teaching approach. Grammar helps you communicate, but classes are intended to remain interactive and enjoyable.

Can I return to Italian after a break?

Possibly. If you have studied Italian before but are unsure how much you’ve retained, complete the self-assessment form and ask which level would be the best fit.
